Quite possibly the leading brand of premium Eyeglasses, Ray-Ban’s designs aren’t just popular: they’re iconic. The company was founded in 1937 in order to provide technical Eyeglasses for pilots: the world’s first “aviator” Eyeglasses.
In spite of having branched out into fashion over the following decades, Ray-Ban is still known for pioneering the use of advanced materials in its designs. It’s also known for making Eyeglasses that, on pretty much anybody, just look really cool. Consider one design: the Wayfarer.
First produced in the 1950s, Ray-Ban Wayfarers were one of the first all-plastic Eyeglasses frames, and enjoyed robust sales during the 1950s and 60s. Members of the emerging rock-and-roll scene loved them: Bob Dylan and John Lennon were both pictured in the glasses.

And cool characters on TV shows from Miami Vice to Moonlighting made Wayfarers part of their wardrobe. The 1984 hit single “Boys of Summer” even featured the line “you’ve got your hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby”.
More recently, Ray-Ban has kept Wayfarers fresh by expanding the color palette of the frames—you can stick with original black or stick out with a bold red or purple.
